When God Initiates Transition – A Time of Decision
Whose vision for the future will you follow? Today’s culture is pulling at us to fit in with immorality and loose values. Our future is often formed by our past; our preferences; expectations and our history. Here in Joshua chatpers 23 & 24 Joshua is calling people to be honest with themselves and to deal with the mixture in their lives and to choose who they will follow.
In Joshua 23 – Joshua called all the leaders together and reminded them of what God had done for them. He reminded them of how God fought the enemies for them so that they would take possession of the land that God had promised them. He tells them to be focused on Him, not those around them. He warns them not to worship other gods or get caught up in the culture of the day. They are to choose whom to serve.
Joshua 24 -Joshua gathers the leaders and the people before him to instruct them to turn away from the gods of their ancestors. Many still followed false beliefs, values and idols.. Joshua reminds them of what God has done for them and what is expected of them.
Joshua 24:13-15, 13 So I gave you a land on which you did not toil and cities you did not build; and you live in them and eat from vineyards and olive groves that you did not plant.’ 14 “Now fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. 15 But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
God still has a work for us, no matter our age. Don’t step back, go forward together in serving God. Choose what example you will set for future generations.
