Responding to Christmas
Years before Christmas 2020, some people were outraged because of Christmas, wanting to remove nativity scenes, change the Merry Christmas greeting Happy Holidays… Yet this year it seems that more people are saying Merry Christmas. People are looking for ways to be supportive during COVID 19. Recently the COVID vaccine has started to be distributed. People are saying “now we have hope”.
People have always longed for Hope and Good News. We have that hope. We have that Good News when the angels told the shepherds about the birth of Jesus. Luke 2:10-11 New International Version. ‘But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.
Jesus is the Light of the world.
John 1: 9-12, 9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God..
There are many who have chosen to remain darkness and stumble over the message of God’s Good News and ultimately reject it. However Isaiah assures us that people who are in darkness will see a great Light. There is an answer to despair and the darkness in our midst – a real hope.
Jesus is answer. He is the Light that shines in the darkness. He is our HOPE.
Isaiah 9: 2-3; 6 The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.3 You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you
as people rejoice at the harvest, as warriors rejoice when dividing the plunder.
6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
