Freedom pt-6, I am Spiritually Minded
Freedom is where the spirit of the Lord is. It is in His presence dwelling in us that brings us freedom. It removes the things that used to bind us and allows us to move forward with purpose.
2 Corinthians 3:17,18 ESV, Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
God has declared us to be free because of what Jesus has done for us. Our identity is in Jesus. God’s purpose is to transform you into a new person by the renewal of your mind. The mind is key to that transformation and freedom. If our mind is focused on God, we will have peace. If no- we will have turmoil, anxiety and defeat.
The problem is that our mind is naturally carnal, fleshly, not spiritual. We are self serving, conformed to patterns of this world. We must be dominated by spiritual thinking rather than carnal thinking.
Romans 8:5-7 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. 6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. 7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot.
The process to renewing our minds is to keep coming back to God’s Word to become free of the old patterns and emotions that used to dominate your life. As our thinking aligns with God’s truth our emotions change too. Instead of reacting to situations with fear and worry, we respond with trust. Instead of anger and bitterness, we respond with forgiveness and grace. Instead of feeling rejected, we feel confident in the acceptance and love of God.
When we are spiritually minded we don’t focus on ourselves, we focus on Him. We don’t deny the situation we are facing, but we think about the situation in light of God and His abilities and His love for us.
2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
